DIABETES AND HAIR LOSSDon’t Lose Your hair Because of
Diabetes!
You don't have to lose your hair because of diabetes! If you lose hair significantly you can suspect you develop diabetes. If your
hair loss happens in larger quantities than normally and it doesn't look like
it follows a hair loss pattern then you have to see a doctor.
The reason behind "you have to" is that you can develop
diabetes, a disease hormonal related hence hair loss
can be a first symptoms.
Here are the relationships between diabetes and hair loss:
- a healthy person's hair grows 2 to 6 years; after this period it goes into a dormancy period and then falls out; new hair produced in the follicles pushes out the dormant hair replacing it;
diabetes
results in poor blood circulation which causes the hair to fall out quickly, the new strands don't grow in time to replace the lost hair and they tend to die sooner than the healthy ones; the result is
thinner and thinner hair
- Diabetes lowers skin's resistance to infections; the scalp is more sensitive to bacterial and fungal infections that can disrupt the hair growth process
- The diabetes medication can affect the normal hair growth cycle as the body adjusts to the medication
- Diabetics suffer often from stress and anxiety as direct result of diabetes; stress and anxiety are known factors for
hair loss (combined with dehydration the hair loss can become even more severe)
Helpful suggestions for diabetics losing suffering from hair loss:
- See if the hair loss condition improves after the body gets used to the
medication (a few months)
- Avoid dehydration
- Keep in shape: exercise regularly to stimulate blood circulation
- Relax, avoid stress and anxiety (yoga it s a good idea)
Diabetes is a life changing disease. You doctor's recommendation should be followed carefully. Adopt a healthy life style for the benefit of your general health including your hair's health.
